About This Blog

A somewhat opinionated aggregation of whatever of an infinite numbers of issues come to mind...

On the nuts and bolts of politics, I vent here and here.

And I post random (but oh, so profound!) thoughts here.

Reverend Wright and Afrocentric White Racism

This is the transcript of a speech given by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, before the Detroit NAACP

Both the full video and the transcript are important because they show how some of the best, most dedicated minds over the past fifty years were indoctrinated into white-supremicist models, in the cause of black liberation.

From the Transcript (Italics added):

Left brain is logical and analytical. Object oriented means the student learns from an object. From the solitude of the cradle with objects being hung over his or her head to help them determine colors and shape to the solitude in a carol in a PhD program stuffed off somewhere in a corner in absolute quietness to absorb from the object. From a block to a book, an object. That is one way of learning, but it is only one way of learning.

African and African-American children have a different way of learning.

They are right brained, subject oriented in their learning style. Right brain that means creative and intuitive. Subject oriented means they learn from a subject, not an object. They learn from a person.

What all this ignores, of course, is that the bulk of black scientists, engineers, doctors in, or being trained in, the United States are from the Second Diaspora: immigrants from Africa and the Carribean.  Hence, one could make a (specious) claim that, based upon the evidence left-brain thinking is AfroCentric, and right-brained approaches are the result of The White Power Structure Destroying Our Culture.

My gripe is not with Reverend Wright, who spent his life trying to fight the Good Fight; rather it's my total disgust with those tenured popcorn pimps who adapted Bell Curve-style approach as a means of  indulging their ego, with the intellectual, cultural and physical destruction of three generations of black children as collateral damage.  What we have is a textbook case of internalized white racism encased in melanin.

It also essentially shows the results of the self-corruption of black elites, both intellectually and politically since the turn of the twentieth century, a process that accelerated over the past half century.

It is sort of interesting that Wright cited Carter G. Woodson, who spent his life fighting the mindset that Wright espouses.

This is why folk have to get beyond reacting to Republican red-meat rhetoric on these issues...
